Case Sharing: Roof Noise Reduction Project for a Real Estate Development

Project Background

Commercial complexes are products of the continuous progress of modern life. With a scientific and human-centric business planning premise, it embodies the historical responsibility of fostering urban civilization and economic development. It establishes the consumption and lifestyle concepts of a generation, creating a completely new urban life within limited project volumes and offering people a more convenient lifestyle. Every rose has its thorn; in the convenience, without proper noise reduction, the noise from all the equipment rooms, fans, and cooling towers in commercial complexes can negatively impact the lives of nearby residents.

In this classic case shared by Huiyun, the focus is on noise control in a commercial complex square. The square is surrounded by residential areas, and when the roof equipment is in normal operation, the noise from the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh floors, equipment rooms, roof fans, and cooling tower equipment becomes excessive, affecting the nearby residents negatively. The owner highly values the noise issue and requires rectification based on the mentioned noise situation. A noise reduction plan needs to be designed to address and solve the noise problem.

Customer Requirements

In the competitive noise reduction market, customer satisfaction is crucial for long-term success of business. Huiyun places a high emphasis on customer satisfaction, actively exploring customer demands to meet their goals and achieve higher levels of customer satisfaction and business success.

In the interaction with the customer, Huiyun leverages its years of noise reduction experience, communicates actively with the customer to understand pain points, and meets customer requirements. Without affecting the normal operation of roof fans and cooling towers, the noise reduction solution for real estate roof noise is designed to meet national noise emission standards. Huiyun turns customer demands into project guiding principles and establishes the following design principles and control goals:

Design Principles

(1) Not to affect or change the functional requirements of the process.
(2) Not to reduce the original production efficiency or worsen the original ventilation and heat dissipation functions.
(3) The design must meet the requirements of national noise emission standards.
(4) Design values should use economically viable measures while meeting noise emission requirements.
(5) The materials used should be environmentally friendly, non-toxic, and fire-resistant.
(6) Design for aesthetic considerations while ensuring acoustic effectiveness.

Control Goals

After the completion of the noise control for all roof noise sources, the noise value at 1m outside the parapet wall around the roof meets the Class II standard requirements of GB 3096-2008 "Environment Quality Standard for Noise." That is, the daytime (6:00-22:00) noise value is ≤60 dB(A), and the nighttime (22:00-6:00) noise value is ≤50 dB(A).

Solution

1.Range Hood Noise Control Approach:

(1)The noise from the fan mainly comes from the outlet and motor noise, with some air ducts causing vibration and radiated noise due to fast wind speed.

(2)Different control measures are taken based on the layout of the equipment on-site.

(3)For fans located less than 5m from the parapet wall, install ventilation and heat dissipation acoustic hoods + outlet mufflers; for example, the fourth floor SF-4F-D218 fan.

(4)For fans located more than 5m but less than 10m from the parapet wall, install semi-closed acoustic hoods; for example, the fourth floor SF-4F-D203 fan.

(5)For fans located more than 10m from the parapet wall, install mufflers at the outlet; for example, the sixth floor PF-6F-D508 fan.

(6)Acoustic hoods and semi-closed acoustic hoods have internal maintenance channels and a place to appropriately positioned doors.

(7)The acoustic hoods are modular and detachable.

(8)Install ventilation and heat dissipation mufflers on the acoustic hoods.

(9)Install high-efficiency ventilation mufflers at the outlet.

2.Noise Reduction Design Scheme for Cooling Tower Equipment

(1) The noise from the cooling tower mainly comes from the outlet and the water-spraying area, with the noise exceeding standards from some cooling tower's accompanying water pump and pipes.

(2) Based on the layout and noise map of the cooling tower on-site, design a metal sound barrier installed externally to the cooling tower.

(3) Install intake acoustic louvers below the sound barrier, with a buffer maintenance area reserved between the louvers and the equipment.

(4) The foundation structure of the sound barrier uses a steel structure foundation, connected to the equipment foundation to protect the existing roof waterproofing.

(5) Install ventilation mufflers at the cooling tower's outlet; the mufflers are of the folded-plate type and expel air away from sensitive points.
